Code Zero 1 is used on boats from 35' (11 m) to 50' (15 m) Code Zero 2 on boats from 50' (15 m) through 65' (20 m) and Code Zero 3 on boats from 65' (20 m) to 95' (30 m).

Because furling a Code Zero sail requires high luff tension, an adapter kit is available to convert either the halyard or tack line into a 2:1 purchase. Sealed, hardened-steel, roller thrust bearings handle the high loads. Furler height is minimal so luff lengths can be maximized. The rope rides on a large-diameter eight-faceted sheave that grips the line, similar to the jaws of a self-tailing winch. LIGHT / EASY TO FIT / AESTHETIC: The continuous line Code zero & gennaker furlers (FX) are made of two main components, one flat continous line drum and one swivel.

They are driven by a simple rope driver and use a minimal amount of continuous line. "Now the technology has trickled down, making this high-performance lightweight gear available to all sailors." Code Zero furlers are just that-furlers. "The first Code Zero furlers were developed by our Custom Engineering Department and used aboard Volvo 60 around-the-world racers," said Olaf Harken company vice president.

We are finding this a very versatile sail with a massive cross over in our downwind wardrobe, and the removal of the cable has only brought benefits not only in regards to flying shape but has also made the sail much easier to store in the bag and get on and off the foredeck as the furled sail can bend and be flaked much easier than with the cable.Īs a team we are hugely impressed with this innovation so much so we have now taken delivery of also a Fractional Cable Less zeros to complement the mast head version.Paralleling innovation in the sail design arena, Harken designed Code Zero furlers to tame the enormous loads generated by the new Code Zero sails, such as screechers, gennakers and staysails, in conditions with apparent wind angles of 30 to 50 degrees. Initial concerns were that the sail would be difficult to furl but this is not the case in fact we are finding the new code zero much easier to furl and unfurl compared to our previous sail with cable.

"The new Zero Cable Code Zero is a huge step forward for these furling sails, with the removal of the heavy cable in the luff the sail is free to project positively massively improving the flying shape of the sail. Ker 46, Lady Mariposa has tested the sail over a longer period and here is the feedback from Dan Hardy, Team Manager: And with no cable there is less risk damaging expensive hard ware. With the improved positive luff you gain wider sailing angles compared to a traditional Code Zero - and more power. The Cable-free Code Zero is easy to handle and store. Built and designed for the demanding high-end racer - and for the no-nonsense cruiser! High Performance / Easy handling / Less storage

The cable-free design and optimized sail area permits sailing in a broader wind angle resulting in fewer sail changes and more speed down wind. A Seldn CX drum and halyard swivel for thimbles are used both for the Code 0 sail and an additional gennaker. This is an all-in-one solution for the sailor using both Code 0 and gennaker and prefers using one halyard for both applications. The EPEX cable-free Code Zero is a new outstanding sail where design and innovative material combinations have replaced the furling cable. ALL-IN-ONE Seldn CX, for Code 0 & top-down furling of an asymmetric spinnaker/gennaker.
